Society and nationhood.

One of the things I did not understand as a young person, and which I learned from conservatism, is the importance of society within a national state. Your family, your faith congregation, fraternal lodges, volunteer societies - all of these things exist outside of the government's purview and are part of a healthy, functioning nation. Communism sees all such bodies as direct threats to its absolute control.
