For the love of all that is sacred. If you ever find yourself uttering the sentence, "Oh, you're just like [character name] in [book title]!" - STOP.

Just stop. Take a deep breath and step away from your library. No, the real live person you are talking to is NOT just like Character Name in Book Title. They may *remind* you of this or that memorable character, and perhaps the similarity may even give you some insights into their personality. But the person you are talking to is a unique human being, not a character in a book. They have their own story to tell.

I must confess I regarded actual people as twins/likes of other actual people much more often than I regarded anyone as a materialized book character.

Maybe the rule should be generalized - at least for those like me who, like me, tend to overgeneralize their life experience.
