SCRIPTURE. I'm now nearing the end of II Samuel (more or less following the chapter-by-chapter reading according to the 929 Project schedule), with King David beset by various troubles, and agonizing over the death of his son and would-be usurper Absalom. David seems to have trouble acting decisively when it's needed. In Chapter 19 he gets some tough love from Yoav (Joab), for "showing love to those who hate you and hate to those who love you". My go-to sources for Bible text and commentary are Robert Alter (in English) and the Steinsaltz Bible (Hebrew test with commentary in English).

TECHNOLOGY. I was a BlackBerry devotee to the bitter end, and even ordered the KeyOne back in 2019. It was the BB Corp's farewell to the mobile phone market, and almost an afterthought, as the parent company in Waterloo is still in business but now focusing on software. (This final BB phone ran on Android, rather than the traditional BBOS, and was actually manufactured by a third-party company, not BB itself.) The phone was a decent enough device when brand-new, but became obsolete almost immediately, and stopped accepting OS updates. So, long story short, the time has at last arrived for me to say a fond farewell to my lovely pushbutton-keyboard BlackBerry phone and make friends with a shiny new Samsung. I've ordered an S23 and it should arrive in the next couple of days.
