2007-02-11 21:46These renderings are from a closely cropped photograph by Mapplethorpe. I used cropping a lot, and was pleased with the effects I could create by zeroing in on a small area of an image.
Platt was a graphic design school, not an art school, but the curriculum did include some rudimentary instruction in drawing and painting. (The more advanced students would go on to learn an exotic new technology called "Photoshop".) It was then that I realized I secretly wanted to really learn to draw and paint.
