Richard II

So I spent the middle part of the day (from 10 to 1) watching 'Richard II' on the new TV. Not exactly a bad way to spend 3 hours. Great play, although well before the halfway mark I found myself dearly wishing that the old man would just SHUT. THE FUCK. UP. And what a narcissist! From beginning to end. The scene where he's looking in the mirror for signs of his own suffering nails it. And indecisive - throughout his whole, drawn-out downfall to Henry, he can't make up his mind whether to fight or surrender. When people stand, he wants them to kneel, and when (5 minutes later) they kneel, he wants them to stand. And through it all, he spends more time blabbering about going to heaven, or getting help from heaven, or sending other people to hell. It's as if his attention is mostly in this ethereal, fantasy world of his own mind. What a consummate, well, dickhead.
