The news is, the roommate is moving out! She announced the other day that she will be vacating before the 1st of February, saying an opportunity had come up unexpectedly. This is a bit less than the customary 30 days' notice, but in practice I've found that I don't usually get many responses to an ad until the last week or so before the availability date. The announcement doesn't come as a complete surprise, as I knew she was looking for her own place, and she seems really excited about this - she says she'll finally get to have her own place "like a grownup". She says she has enjoyed staying here and has found the place peaceful and comfortable. I wish her all the best.
I met up this afternoon with other volunteers from the election integrity team; we will be doing a session of ballot inspections at the county elections office this coming week. The elections office is close to where I live, and I've budgeted a couple of hours off from work to do this.
I've been going out to social meetups once or twice a week, and I've found that this has significantly helped my mood. Just getting out for food, drinks, company, and conversation with a bunch of random people turns out to be exactly what I needed. After more than two years of lockdowns, it's good to feel human again.
