TECHNOLOGY. My Samsung is up and running. It was lint in the charging port, was all it was. If I'd wanted to get the device replaced, I would have had to go online; but fortunately, when I mentioned the nature of the problem, the guy at the counter invited me to give him the phone, and, with a few deft strokes of the phone tool (the little pointy thing that looks like a guitar pick with a thin spike), he had the device charging again.

BOOKS. I've started renewing my acquaintance with Gene Wolfe (1931-2019), that master of literary science fiction. One of my favorite writers in or outside of the SF genre. I am working my way through 'The Best of Gene Wolfe' and am currently on the wonderful story 'Hour of Trust' (first published 1973). The story is set in the near-future of the early 1990s. Like 'Seven American Nights' (1978), it portrays a dystopian-apocalyptic future that is disturbingly similar to our own present day.

BOOKS, CONTINUED. I finished my latest re-read of Peter S. Beagle's 'The Last Unicorn'. It just gets better each time I read it. The story really is all about time - time and mortality.

BOOKS, CONTINUED. I had set myself a goal of reading through all of Shakespeare's plays, and I figured if I were to read one play a week, I could easily get through the 37 or so plays in a year's time. I'm already familiar with a few of 'em, of course, but I wanted to go for completeness. So I started with one of the Bard's earliest and shortest works, 'A Comedy of Errors' (probably written around 1594). In the event, though, I found that I didn't want to rush the project, and even such a lighthearted work as the improbable tale of the two Antipholuses and two Dromios running around Ephesus warranted my time and respectful attention. So, it'll take as long as it takes, but I'm gonna make it worth my while.
