In Whole Foods this morning, I saw an older man with a red MAGA cap. (The real thing, not some satirical take-off slogan.) I caught his eye and gave him a thumbs-up, and he gave a big smile.

Party meeting this evening; meanwhile I'm getting housework done (or avoiding housework by posting journal entries) and getting a little outdoor exercise. It's a beautiful fall day for a walk.

New job starts next Monday; I've got an online orientation meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning. The prospect of going back to work-from-home is roughly equal parts disappointment and relief: I try to stay focused on the positive side (glass half full and all that), in that I won't have to deal with a driving commute, I'll be able to run a load of laundry while I work, I can take a walk in the park by my apartment complex over lunch break, etc.

Still, though, I am going to miss the daily human contact of going to the office, so I'll have to make extra effort to stay active in my social and political circles, and of course the shul.

I have to admit I've been a little disappointed with some of the Chabad congregations in the area; sometimes it seems like Chabad are really good at helping people put on tefillin, or light Shabbos candles, or put up a mezuzah - and then posting a selfie on Facebook. Not so much on the day-to-day follow-through.

One happy exception has been the Rabbi whose commissioning as a Chaplain I recently attended, and I'm hoping to become a regular at his classes. [269]
